Asia
Sandwiched between the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal is the southern region of India—referred to as “South India”. Tropical climates and lush flora garnish the landscape and compliment the communities who live there. In fact, some of the world’s most beautiful wildlife sanctuaries are found in South India.
The people in South India are as diverse as its scenery, with an estimated population of over 233 million people. This region is linguistically and culturally very different from the rest of India, and has assumed its own identity.
On a grimmer side, South India is hampered by severe hunger and human trafficking.
- India has the second highest rates of malnutrition in the world, just after Bangladesh.
- 1/3 of all babies born are underweight.
- 53% of children under the age 5 are underweight and malnourished.
- Out of the 593 districts in India, 378 or 62.5 percent are affected by human trafficking.
In addition to spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ, JIA is committed to resolving the crisis in South India. With your help, our goal is to feed the hungry, help the children, and support programs that rehabilitate victims of human trafficking on the sex slave market.
The conditions in South India demand an urgent response. Like all of the other countries we reach, lives hang in the balance every day. Your support makes the difference.
