Central America

In many respects, Nicaragua is a slice of paradise. Nestled in the heart of Central America, this country flows with beauty—outlined with the indigo shores of the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea. From piping volcanoes to massive lakes, Nicaragua is a captivating place.

Although Nicaragua is the largest Central American country, it’s also among the least populated (5.1 million). Amid its diverse beauty however, there are some dark secrets that have severely hurt this country.

While Nicaragua suffers from many third-world epidemics, being one of the poorest countries in that region, some of its deepest issues involve human trafficking, sexual exploitation and prostitution of children. Plagued by poverty and diminishing opportunities, sex-tourism and child labor is growing rapidly throughout Nicaragua’s cities and streets

  • One of every three children has some degree of chronic malnutrition and 9% suffer from severe malnutrition
  • Poverty affects 2.3 million persons, 831,000 of whom live in extreme poverty
  • Adolescent pregnancies account for one of every four births nationally
  •  More than 167,000 children and adolescents are affected by child labor.
  •
Drug use is also on the rise among children, especially sniffing glue. JIA has witnessed these problems first-hand, and have also produced a video documentary which shows how serious the situation is. Together we can fight these issues, save the lives of children, and also spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

We can make the difference!
